The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam has officially reappointed legendary Australian golfer Gregory John Norman—commonly known as Greg Norman—as the Vietnam Tourism Ambassador for the 2025–2030 term.
This decision, announced under Decision No. 1746 signed by Minister Nguyen Van Hung on June 11, 2025, reflects the country’s confidence in Mr. Norman’s ability to elevate Vietnam’s position as a global golf tourism destination.
Greg Norman is a globally recognized golf legend. A former World No. 1 golfer, he spent 331 weeks atop the Official World Golf Rankings during the 1980s and 1990s. Known as “The Great White Shark,” Norman boasts 91 international tournament victories, including 2 Open Championship titles, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Following his competitive career, Norman transitioned into a business leader, heading Greg Norman Golf Course Design, one of the world’s most influential golf design firms.
Norman has played an instrumental role in shaping the golf landscape of Vietnam through both advocacy and design. Through his design company, Norman has led or contributed to several major golf projects across Vietnam:
✅ Completed Projects:
These projects not only enhance Vietnam’s tourism offering but also contribute to positioning the country as a top-tier golf destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
As Vietnam Tourism Ambassador (2018–2021), Greg Norman helped promote these destinations globally through collaboration with international media channels such as CNN, CNBC, and Golf Magazine. His work helped position Vietnam as a premium golf travel destination in Southeast Asia.
Under Norman’s ambassadorship and industry collaboration:
His efforts have helped Vietnam gain recognition among golfers from South Korea, Japan, Australia, Europe, and beyond.
Mr. Norman’s newly reappointed mission is clear:
“To promote Vietnam as a premier global tourism and golf destination, and attract more international tournaments and investment.”
With the golf industry in Vietnam booming post-COVID and more world-class courses opening across the country, Norman’s continued ambassadorship is expected to help bridge Vietnam’s domestic success with international visibility.
Witnessing the evolution of Vietnam’s golf industry over the past three years, we see Greg Norman’s reappointment not merely as a title but as a clear signal of Vietnam’s growing confidence in leveraging sports tourism and strategic branding to engage global audiences.
