Selangor, Malaysia has officially launched a project to upgrade Sri Morib Golf Course and develop the Morib coastal resort area. The project is one of Malaysia’s notable golf developments in 2026, combining the redevelopment of an existing golf course with a broader plan to establish Morib as an integrated leisure and resort destination.

The project is being developed through a partnership between Lim Seong Hai Capital Berhad, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad, and Seriemas Development. The development is planned over approximately 10 years, with an estimated total development value of RM850 million, equivalent to more than VND5.4 trillion.

Upgrading Sri Morib Golf Course

The first phase focuses on upgrading the existing Sri Morib Golf Course in Kuala Langat, Selangor. The golf course will undergo comprehensive improvements, together with upgrades to its supporting facilities, to enhance the overall playing experience and service quality. The upgrade is expected to take approximately two years.

In addition to improving the golf course, the developers also plan to introduce a new clubhouse and coastal accommodation facilities to support the growing demand for leisure and resort experiences among domestic and international visitors.

Developing an Integrated Resort and Township

Beyond the golf course, the project also includes residential, commercial, and service developments across approximately 61 hectares.

The development aims to create an integrated tourism and leisure ecosystem, with the golf course serving as a central attraction connected to resorts, accommodation, retail, and entertainment facilities. This model is becoming increasingly common across the region as investors look to create greater value for destinations rather than developing standalone golf courses.

Morib is already a well-known coastal destination among residents of Selangor. The new development is expected to provide additional momentum for the area, attracting more visitors while expanding its tourism and leisure offerings in the years ahead.

A New Direction for Malaysia’s Golf Industry

One of the most notable aspects of the Morib project is that it is not an entirely new golf course development. Instead of developing on new land, the project focuses on upgrading an existing golf course while expanding the surrounding hospitality and leisure ecosystem. This approach allows the developers to make use of existing infrastructure, reduce development time, and generate greater economic value for the surrounding area.

In recent years, golf developments across Southeast Asia have increasingly moved beyond standalone golf courses toward integrated models combining golf, hospitality, accommodation, and leisure facilities. This approach can help extend visitor stays while creating multiple revenue streams for investors.

As suitable land for new golf developments becomes increasingly limited and development costs continue to rise, upgrading existing golf assets alongside hospitality and leisure developments could become a more effective long-term strategy. If implemented as planned, the Morib project could become a notable example of golf-led destination development in Malaysia, contributing to the growth of both the country’s golf industry and its coastal leisure tourism sector.
