Thanh Hoa Province Prioritizes 11 Golf Course Projects for 2026-2030 Development

Central Vietnam province announces VND 8.3 trillion golf investment plan as part of 2026-2030 economic development strategy

Thanh Hoa Province has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop 11 championship golf courses between 2026 and 2030, representing total estimated investment exceeding VND 8.3 trillion (approximately $330 million USD). The announcement positions this central Vietnam province as an emerging golf destination, contributing to Vietnam’s national goal of 200 operational golf courses by 2030.

Project Portfolio Overview

The 11 priority golf projects include:

Four 36-hole championship facilities with investments over VND 1 trillion (~$39 million USD) each:

  • Ha Long Golf Course (Ha Long Commune)
  • Hoang Hoa Golf Course (Hoang Tien Commune)
  • Hao Hao Lake Golf Course (Hai Linh Ward)
  • Ben En Golf Course (Hai Long and Nhu Thanh Communes)

Six 18-hole courses with estimated VND 540 billion (~$21 million USD) investment each across Ba Dinh, Cac Son, Cong Chinh, Lam Son, Sao Vang, and Cam Luong/Co Lung/Cam Tu communes, plus Hai Binh Ward.

One 27-hole facility in Dong Quang Ward near the former provincial center with VND 810 billion (~$32 million USD) investment.

Implementation Strategy

According to Le Trong Thu, Director of Thanh Hoa Department of Finance, eight projects are already included in approved provincial planning, with three proposed for inclusion during ongoing planning adjustments.

The province has identified two priority projects for accelerated implementation: the Dong Quang Golf Course (27 holes) and Tho Xuan Golf Course, selected for their strategic locations, superior transportation access, and connectivity to tourism attractions.

Thanh Hoa emphasizes integrated resort-urban-tourism complexes rather than standalone golf courses. Each project will incorporate urban residential development, resort hotels, commercial services, and tourism facilities creating comprehensive lifestyle destinations that drive economic development beyond golf itself.

Investment Promotion Conference

The Thanh Hoa Investment Promotion Conference 2026 takes place March 29 at FLC Sam Son Golf & Resort, the province’s current championship course designed by Nicklaus Design. The conference expects 800 delegates including 150 international participants foreign diplomatic representatives, investment agencies, international enterprises, and financial organizations.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Nghi Son Economic Zone Management Board will coordinate information and facilitate investor connections for the 11 golf projects.

Thanh Hoa currently has one operational championship golf course (FLC Sam Son Golf Links). The province’s strategic position 220 km south of Hanoi with 102 km of coastline, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and strong tourism infrastructure creates compelling golf destination potential.

The 11-course development aligns with Vietnam’s broader golf expansion, joining provinces like Hoa Binh, Vinh Phuc, and Quang Ninh in pursuing aggressive golf development to attract high-value tourism investment.

As Thanh Hoa’s golf landscape expands from one to twelve courses over the next five years, professional marketing and international visibility will prove critical for project success. New golf courses require strategic positioning, digital presence, content creation, and distribution partnerships with tour operators to achieve profitability.
