Thatluang Lake Golf Resort is expected to officially launch before the end of 2026, bringing a new destination to Laos’s golf and tourism market. The project is located within the Thatluang Lake Special Economic Zone, a rapidly developing area in Vientiane. Notably, the golf course is designed by Faldo Design, constructed by Flagstick GCCM, while the turf system is supplied by Sports Turf Solutions (STS).
An 18-Hole Par-70 Golf Course
Thatluang Lake Golf Resort features a par-70 golf course measuring approximately 6,007 yards. The design takes advantage of the relatively low and flat terrain of the area, incorporating greenery, water features, bunkers, and elevation changes to create variety throughout the playing experience. As the project occupies a relatively compact area, the course layout is designed to optimize the distance between holes. The design places a strong emphasis on accuracy and shot positioning rather than relying solely on distance.

One notable aspect of the construction process is that the overall site elevation has been raised by an average of approximately 2–4 meters from the original terrain. A system of lakes and drainage networks has been developed to manage water flow while also adding landscape features to the golf course.
In particular, the project uses Zeon Zoysia for the fairways, tees, and rough, while TifEagle Bermuda is used for the greens. The selection of these turf varieties is intended to help maintain consistent playing conditions and surface quality throughout different periods of the year. In addition to the golf course, Thatluang Lake Golf Resort will also feature a golf academy and a two-tier driving range, supporting practice, training, and player development at different levels.
Expanding the Potential of the Golf Market in Laos
Thatluang Lake Golf Resort is being developed to serve both local golfers in Vientiane and international golf visitors. Its location in the capital, together with its training and practice facilities, could provide an additional option for the country’s developing golf market.
With the involvement of Faldo Design, Flagstick GCCM, Sports Turf Solutions, and golf management company IMG, the project is being positioned as a new golf destination in the region.
Once operational, Thatluang Lake Golf Resort will add another golf offering in Vientiane, while contributing to the expansion of golf destinations in Laos and connecting the market with golfers from China, South Korea, and other Southeast Asian countries.
